Abstract

Alfred Douglas “Cap” Collier was a noted twentieth century lumberman and philanthropist in Klamath County, Oregon. He started the Swan Lake Logging Company and then founded Swan Lake Moulding Company in 1923. He served on several local government committees and boards, with a special interest in roads and transportation. Collection contains 7 certificates awarded to Alfred Douglas Collier from 1910 to 1940.

Applegate Travelers' Diaries Collection

Abstract

The Applegate Trail was an emigrant trail in the states of Idaho, Nevada, California, and Oregon, used in the mid-19th Century. Collection contains three handwritten diaries dating back to 1800s, written by various travelers along the Applegate Trail.

Archaeology and Oral History of an Allotment Homestead on the Former Klamath Indian Reservation, Beatty, Oregon

Abstract The Klamath Indian Reservation was comprised of the three tribes: Klamath, Modoc, and Yahooskin, who historically lived in separate areas. The Treaty of 1864 merged all three tribes together into the single “Klamath Tribe” which was then placed on the reservation in the Klamath Basin. The archaeological excavation going on the site of the former reservation focused on a small cabin that may have belonged to a local family sometime between 1890 and 1915. Abstract

The Modoc War was known as one of the costliest of the 19th-Century Indian Wars. It lasted for 8 months between 1872 and 1873. Francis S. “Van” Landrum was a businessman and self-taught structural engineer/land surveyor in Klamath Falls, Oregon as well as a noted amateur historian and author. Collection contains a map drawn by Landrum that includes all the major points of importance related to the Modoc War.

Harry Dolan Boivin served for 26 years in the Oregon Legislative Assembly including holding the offices of Speaker of the House and Senate President. Jack Bowden Logging Railroads Collection

The collection consists of research material on Oregon, northern California, and northwestern Nevada logging and freight railroads, logging companies and mills in the area, correspondence, drafted maps, images, DVDs and maps. Jack Bowden (John Curtis Bowden) translated a life-long love of railroads into a career with the Southern Pacific Railroad, two books and a research collection created over 60 years.
